BALLOT POSITION DRAWING PROCEDURE FOR MARCH 20, 2019

The draw for ballot positions for the May 21, 2019 Primary Election will commence March 20th at 11am in City Hall Room 676 in accordance with the machine ballot layout for City Elective Offices.

  • Each candidate that filed nomination petitions for one of the above City Elective Offices will have the opportunity to draw a lot to determine their ballot position for that Office.
  • We will proceed through the candidate list for each office in the order of the first filing date and time stamp on the nomination petitions filed with the County Board of Elections, until all candidates for that office have drawn.
  • A candidate for City Elective Office who filed their nomination petitions first will draw their lot first.
  • When each candidate on the list for a specific office has drawn, we will proceed to the next office listed.
  • If a candidate on the list waives their position to draw they will move to the back of the list of candidates to draw for that office.
  • For those candidates who wish to use a PROXY to draw for their ballot position, the candidate must authorize the selected individual by filing a PROXY form, with the County Board of Elections, by Wednesday, March 20, 2019
  • For those candidates in attendance who do not wish to draw their lot and did not authorize a PROXY to draw for them, a Civil Service employee of the County Board of Elections will then draw the lot for that candidate.
  • If a candidate who filed nomination petitions does not appear for the draw or send an authorized PROXY, the candidate will maintain their position on the candidates list for the draw, and an employee of the County Board of Elections will draw for that candidate’s ballot position and continue through the rest of the candidates list for that office.
  • If a candidate appears after the draw for their position on the list, or their specific office has been completed, we will not revisit or redraw for that position or office.
